And we're off in a cloud of dust and smoke!

-from 8/29/07

We made one last stop at the Mobil station to get the car looked over by the mechanic. He must have thought we were insane. But he humored us, checked the tire pressure and made the sign of the cross for good measure. I think we're good.

There was a lunar eclipse last night. Too tired to think of staying up to see it. Bummed I missed it.

Goodbye Westlake Village, hellooooo Black Rock City!

Finally...

- from 8/29/07

We're finally packed into the car and ready to go. Got coffee, money and snacks.

Was up 'til 1am last night with final costume making and frantic housecleaning. Heather woke me at 5am. Showered then back to bed since I thought I could get at least another 45min before Heather got here. Had anxiety dreams about the trip.... oversleeping, cargo all over the road, etc. Lovely.

Heather hit tons of traffic and our estimated departure time of 5am has dissolved into 9:30am. I'm thrilled to get more sleep. Poor Heather I think only got an hour's worth?

But! She is here, the car is packed to the gills and we're almost out the door. I don't think I forgot anything...

Now to drive 10+ hours! Whee!

Our Green Man

Holy cow, what an adventure!

I've just been organizing images and thoughts for the last 2 days. I don't know where to start... all the thoughts are jumping around vying for first place.

It was an amazing experience. I think I spent the entire time just absorbing what was going on and so little time thinking.

The Quest for Goggles

We had one heck of a time trying to find the right goggles. In the midst of our quest, other people in the camp heard we were picking up goggles and asked us to grab some for them. Bevan wound up buying 25 pairs from 7 different very savvy vendors on the Venice Boardwalk. They obviously knew BM was coming up and wouldn’t budge on price. So, all in all it only took 2 fruitless trips to Hollywood and 3 trips to Venice to get everything.

Bevan ran into a fellow Burner at Venice Beach.

Nothing is Real

The Road Mac

Ready for the dust of Burning Man and the Danes of a dog park.

Velcro® is what holds Mac in place when lid is open. The G-Tech
external hard drive has a fan that is vented with the input of air
flowing through the square hole on right and exiting out the back
next to the power cord. Note that foam hole in lid is 1.5" smaller
than the size of the laptop.

Air that exits hard drive then passes under power supply before it
exits the case. A USB Air Card can be seen tucked away, upper left.
And look, room for more hard drives!

Scientific Testing

3M 8511
at Home Depot, 3 pack, $7.

* good seal over nose.
* elastic was too tight for me so i cut it and added 2" of string.
* goggles fit is not effective.
